We were listening...
when you said you wanted more customization options for your social media icons, so we’re VERY excited to bring you just that! Now you have more options than ever allowing you to design your icons in a way that reflects the branding you’ve chosen (and put a lot of hard work into!) for your site! Here are some tips for creating social icons perfectly tailored for your blog.
Step 1: Change the appearance of your icons
Step 2: Designate which icons show on your homepage
Step 3: Designate which icons show on your post pages, and where.
To access the new options:
Login to your Wordpress dashboard and click on the AdThrive tab. (Make sure your AdThrive plugin is updated to the latest version!)
Click on mobile theme and then the “Social” tab:
You’ll see that the Social tab is broken into three sections: Appearance, Sharing, and Links
This is the fun stuff: changing the look and feel of your social media icons! Here’s a glimpse at what each setting changes.
This option changes the color of the social media icon logo. (The “P” in the Pinterest icon; the “F” in the Facebook icon, etc.) Leave it white for the default look:
Or select “Social Media” to turn them the default social media branding color, or select “custom” to choose your own color:
Change this section to tweak the background color of the social media icons. For this sample, we changed the “icon color” to “social media” and the “background color” to “none:”
In this sample, we changed the “icon color” to “white” and the “background color” to “custom,” then selected the fuschia color:
You can choose whether to have a border, and if so, what color. In this sample, we’ve changed the “icon color” to “custom” and selected black; selected “none” for the “background color” and selected a black border color:
You can choose either square icons:
Select the “box shadow” option if you want a shadow around the outside of the icons, or the “text shadow” option to have a shadow around the logos. This is how it looks with a text shadow:
(It’s very subtle!)
And with a box shadow:
Change the font size of the icons. The default font size is 24. Feel free to make them bigger or smaller to fit the look and feel you’d like!
“Normal” spacing will keep each icon square (like the samples above); “wide” will make them rectangular:
And “fill” will increase their spacing so they fill the width of the screen.
Increase the padding to make a little more space around the logos:
Or decrease it for a tighter feel:
Use this setting to adjust the horizontal spacing between each box.
Select “center” to align all the icons in the center of your mobile screen; left-aligned will align them all to the left, etc.
The sharing section allows you to choose the icons that will show on your posts and/or pages. When people click on these links, they will be sharing your post to the selected social media. (Not following you on that social media.)
You can also position them at the top, bottom, or both areas of your posts. (Do you think more people will share your post if the icons are at the top of the page or the bottom? Use that to decide how to lay them out in the “position” setting.)
To select which icons display on your posts and/or pages:
Click and drag the icons from the “available” box into the “selected” box. You can change the order and add or remove icons just by clicking and dragging! Easy peasy.
Use this section to set up your “follow me on social media” links -- the icons that will typically appear on your homepage and/or menu. When people click on these icons, they will be following you at that social media (NOT sharing your post there).
To select which icons display:
Click and drag the icons from the “available” box into the “selected” box. You can change the order and add or remove icons just by clicking and dragging.
After you move a social media icon into the “selected” box, a link will show up for that social media below, in the “social links” section.
YOU MUST FILL OUT THE URL OF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA PROFILE (where you want them to go to follow you) in order for the icon to display. Once you add all your icons, please double-check that they’re all displaying and linking to the correct place. If the URL is blank, the icon will not display, even if it’s “selected.”
Have fun customizing your AdThrive Mobile theme to fit your unique site, personality and brand!
